Christmas in the City is established.

(Dec.) Founded by Jake Kennedy and his wife Sparky, it is held at Boston City Hall. The first of the all-volunteer charity that goes on to become an annual event, it provides some 165 poor children with the toys from Christmas wish lists. The expands to include a day of rides, games, food, and other treats for more than 6,000 children and is subsequently held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Despite Jake Kennedy’s death due to ALS in 2022 and suspension due to the coronavirus, plans call for it to return in 2023.
